Phi Theta Zeta Chapter History

Phi Theta Zeta is a chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, located in Gardena, California. It was chartered on
October 25, 2007.  Phi Theta Zeta charter members are Michelle Miller, Donielle Cole, Michele Smith, Xavier Spratts, and Chantel Thorton,


Our mission is to expand the impact of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated by establishing a presence of the organization in the city of Gardena, and select surrounding cities, exemplifying the ideals of Service, Scholarship, Sisterly Love, and Finer Womanhood through the implementation of the sorority's signature programs. Phi Theta Zeta members are active in a variety of community service projects, including:
  • Mentoring youth
  • Providing scholarships to students
  • Hosting health screenings and educational workshops
  • Supporting local charities and organizations
Phi Theta Zeta is a vibrant and active chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. The chapter is committed to serving the community and making a difference in the lives of others.

Michelle Miller

2007-2009​
  • First president of the Phi Theta Zeta chapter.
  • First participated in Gardena's annual Martin Luther King parade
  • First Miss Blue Revue Debutante Ball
  • The SAPPHIRE Court was established
  • First chapter retreat held in Carlsbad, CA
  • Participated in first March for Babies walk (goal exceeded by 150%).

  • First chapter float created for Gardena Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
  • Baby shower gifts given to New Beginnings Shelter in Long Beach CA
  • The initial chapter website was started
  • Emphasis was placed on community service as a new chapter

2013-2017
  • Chartered all three youth groups; Archonettes, Amicettes, and Pearlettes
  • First Pacific Regional award - Chapter of the Year (3rd place)
  • Called by National to present at the President Training Institute
  • First to bid to host Pacific Regional conference
  • Granted undergraduate sponsorship at California State University Fullerton (CSUF)
  • Chapter hosted Sigma/Zeta 50s themed brunch

  • 2017 Chapter of the Year (3rd Place) Regional Conference
  • Hosted the 2019 Pacific Regional Leadership Conference
  • Reestablished undergraduate chapter Omega Kappa at California State University Fullerton
  • PTZ Chapter Centennial Donor
  • 51% of the chapter ZOL certified, 1 Train the Trainer with members serving on State, Regional & National levels

  • Chapter Fitness Challenges (Zetas Have Heart)
  • Administration awarded $11k in scholarships

Dr. Lisa Wright

2023-2025

  • ​Honored at the 2025 Pacific Regional Leadership Conference for Z-Hope for St. Jude
  • Through Z-Hope “ALL Things Purple,” donated over 1,000 personal items to the local Domestic Violence Women’s Shelter
  • Co-organized a “Prematurity Awareness” church service at New Hope Baptist Church, Long Beach, CA, alongside the Sigma Eta Zeta Chapter of Long Beach, CA
  • Collaborated with Zetas, Amicae, and Zeta Youth on the City of Gardena's “Birthday Kit Program.”
  • Utilized "Good Health Wins" grant funds to donate more than 50 prematurity kits.
